The continued expansion of the company’s diverse team advances scientific exploration and discovery in cell biology while driving toward commercialization of Deepcell’s platform
MENLO PARK, Calif. — August 16, 2022 — Deepcell, a life science company pioneering AI-powered cell characterization and isolation for cell biology and translational research, today announced the appointment of Kady Cooper as Head of People. Kady has over 20 years of Human Resources experience supporting fast-growing start-ups and Fortune 100 companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. She joins Deepcell to build a world-class human resources function that supports the company’s exponential growth, tripling in size to 80 employees in the past 18 months and driving aggressive expansion plans.
Prior to joining Deepcell, Kady was VP of Human Resources, Inclusion & Diversity, at the life science company Berkeley Lights where she designed and implemented a scalable human resource function that allowed the company to grow from 90 to 300 employees. She was instrumental in establishing the HR Business Partner function and People Analytics, utilizing technology to improve the employee experience.
Previously, she worked at the engineering company Kier & Wright for three years and, prior to that, she worked as a Human Resources consultant in the life sciences industry for over six years. She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources through SHRM and HRCI. She earned a BS and MS in Human Resources Management and completed a certificate in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell.
“All of the people who are part of the Deepcell team are among our greatest assets as a company, so we wanted to bring in a human resources leader with extensive experience who knows how to scale an organization and implement best practices in attracting, supporting and motivating top talent,” said Maddison Masaeli, CEO and co-founder of Deepcell. “I’m thrilled to welcome Kady Cooper to Deepcell as Head of People. She has the expertise, proven track record and people-centric approach to help our team advance, continuing to diversify, integrate and grow.”
Deepcell has experienced rapid growth across a diverse set of departments, across commercial, research and development, and operations. The company also plans to build out its finance and operations team.
“I’m excited to join Deepcell at a critical time when the company is expanding rapidly and ready for the next level of organizational support to make working at Deepcell as enriching and engaging as possible for employees, as well as to align structure and HR solutions to business goals and people’s needs,” said Kady Cooper, Head of People at Deepcell. “The love of science and engineering, the high-performance culture, the diversity, and the opportunities for professional growth make Deepcell a very special workplace.”
Benefitting from a highly successful Series B financing raise earlier this year, Deepcell is a well-funded life science company that was recently recognized as one of the top companies in the Forbes AI 50, a prestigious list of companies leading the way to use artificial intelligence to shape the future.
Deepcell is pioneering an innovative area of single cell biology analysis called morpholomics. Deepcell’s AI “brain” learns to identify and sort label-free, single cells based on visual features – or morphology – that are barely accessible to the human eye and can continually improve. By unlocking the power of morphology for cell biology, Deepcell is advancing the use of computational methods with its deep learning capabilities to better understand cellular heterogeneity in richer detail.
With a multi-phased approach, Deepcell is driving toward the commercialization of its AI-powered platform, which enables researchers to characterize and gain new insights from single cells at levels of resolution previously unseen with other “omics” based tools. The company is well-positioned to set a new standard for the industry with AI-centric single cell morphology analysis, especially relevant for research, translational research and precision medicine.

Deepcell is advancing the understanding of cell biology by combining advances in AI and high throughput, quantitative cell classification and capture of single-cells to deliver novel insights through an unprecedented view of cell biology. Founded in 2017, the company has created unique, microfluidics-based technology that uses continuously learning AI to classify cells based on detailed visual features without labeling and sort them without inherent bias. The Deepcell platform maintains cell viability for downstream single-cell molecular analysis and can be used to isolate virtually any type of cells, even those occurring at frequencies as low as one in a billion.. Deepcell is privately held and based in Menlo Park, CA. For more information, please visit www.deepcell.com.
